Testicles/Testes

Only guys have testicles – they are the balls that hang between the legs in a sack of skin called the scrotum. The testicles produce sperm, and also the hormone testosterone.

Testosterone

Testosterone is a hormone which promotes the development of male characteristics, such as a deeper voice and facial hair.

Thrush

You’ve probably heard lots of different explanations for this one, but thrush is basically a yeast infection.

Although thrush can occur in other parts of your body, like your mouth, it’s pretty common to happen in the vagina as it’s an overgrowth of a yeast (candida albicans) that’s actually natural to the vagina. If you have any itching, burning, white discharge or stinging or burning when you go to the urinate it’s important to get it checked out by your doctor or book an appointment at your local Family Planning Clinic.

Transgender

Someone who is transgender is someone whose biological sex and gender identity are different.

If you are questioning your sexuality and have some questions, there is nothing to be afraid of – you can ask an expert a question here.

Transition

Transition is a complex process. It is when someone who is transsexual aligns their appearance with their gender identity. The process can involve hormone treatments, surgery, both or neither, depending on the circumstances of the person transitioning.

If you are considering this or have specific questions, talk to your doctor or visit a local Family Planning Clinic.

Transphobia

Transphobia is the fear of people who are transgender.

Similar to homophobia, it is irrational and still far too prevalent in our communities. If you, or one of your friends is experiencing transphobia, please ask for help at your local Family Planning Clinic or talk to a trusted adult about getting support.

Transsexual

Transsexual can mean the same thing as transgender, but it can also mean a person has a desire to have transition surgery.

If you are questioning your sexuality and have some questions, there is nothing to be afraid of – you can ask an expert a question here.

Transvestite

Transvestite is a term for a person who chooses to dress like the opposite sex. A person can be of any gender identity and still be a transvestite. This is different to drag because drag is about performance, transvestism is not. It can be both a personal choice, but also a compulsion. Click here to see legendary comedian Eddie Izzard talk about transvestism.
